READING PASSAGE

Your school is having a lesson on honesty during Character and Citizenship Education (CCE). Your teacher has asked you to read this story to your classmates to remind them that honesty is always the best choice. You will now present the story to the class.

The Mathematics test came back with a big red "48 out of 50" at the top, and Wei Ming's heart leapt. Then he saw it — Question 7. His answer was wrong, but Mr Lim had ticked it by mistake.

Two marks. Nobody would ever know.

All through recess, the two marks sat in his bag like a stone. His friends were already boasting about their scores, and he badly wanted to join them.

When the bell rang, Wei Ming walked slowly to the staff room and knocked.

"Sir, you gave me two marks I didn't earn," he said, sliding the paper across the desk.

Mr Lim looked at the test, then at Wei Ming. He picked up his red pen — and instead of crossing out the marks, he wrote something in the margin.

"'Honest' is worth more than any two marks," he read aloud, smiling. "Keep the forty-eight. You earned the last two just now."

Wei Ming walked back to class feeling lighter than he had all day.
