READING PASSAGE

Your school is holding an appreciation week for its staff. Your teacher has asked you to read this story to your classmates to remind them to be thankful to everyone who helps the school run. You will now present the story to the class.

Every morning, the school gate was already spotless by the time Aaron arrived. He never wondered why — until the day Mr Rahman was not there.

Mr Rahman was the school cleaner, a quiet man who swept the corridors before the sun was fully up. That week, he was away caring for his sick wife, and the school seemed to notice him only once he was gone. Litter gathered in the corners. The canteen tables stayed sticky.

Aaron and his friends decided to help. They wiped tables at recess and cleared trays, and by Friday their arms ached in a way they never had before.

When Mr Rahman returned, Aaron shook his hand.

"I never knew how much you do," he admitted. "Thank you."

Mr Rahman's eyes crinkled. "Nobody has ever thanked me before," he said softly.

From then on, Aaron greeted Mr Rahman by name every morning. And the school gate, he noticed, gleamed a little brighter.
