Nur had signed up for the camp by accident. She had meant to tick "Art Club", but her pencil had slipped one box too low, and now she stood at the foot of a climbing wall that seemed to scrape the clouds.

"I can't," she whispered, staring up. "I'm scared of heights."

"So am I," admitted the instructor, clipping on her harness. "That's why I climb slowly. Courage isn't feeling no fear. It's moving even when you do."

Nur reached for the first handhold. Then the second. Halfway up, her arms trembled and she froze, certain she could go no further.

"Look for one more grip," called her classmates below. "Just one!"

She found it. Then another, and another, until suddenly there was nothing left to climb. She was at the top, the whole camp spread out beneath her like a toy village.

On the bus home, Nur pulled out the sign-up sheet and smiled at her crooked tick.

"Best mistake I ever made," she said.
